POL BURY (Belgian, 1922-2005) Untitled (Blue & Yellow Abstract) signed and dated 'BURY 50' (lower right) gouache and watercolor on paper 50.1 x 32.4 cm (19 3/4 x 12 3/4 in). framed 64.2 x 49.2 x 1.5 cm (25 1/4 x 19 1/4 x 5/8 in). Footnotes: Provenance Mr. and Mrs. Sadi Strebelle (gift from the artist circa 1950s). Estate of Christine Strebelle Ezelle (by descent from the previous). N.B. Francine Falise Strebelle and Sadi Strebelle were the parents of Pol Bury's first wife, Claudine Strebelle. This work is likely a study for Bury's Composition on a Blue Background completed in the same year (Pol Bury Online Catalogue Raisonné, p.121). Composition on a Blue Background was included in a number of exhibitions, most recently Dotremont and the Surrealists: Youth at War (1940–1948), BELvue Museum, Brussels, November 26, 2019–February 9, 2020.
