Footnotes: N.B. The iteration of this subject to which this study most closely relates is Venus and Adonis (1580) by the workshop of Paolo Veronese (the Torrie Collection, University of Edinburgh, EU0745). The work is accompanied by a handwritten note dated June 7, 1966, inscribed: 'Ex. Coll: Dr. G. Bellingham Smith and J.E.
