Vanessa Kirby (as Princess Margaret): a Ghillies Ball cocktail dress Season 1, Episode 10, 'Gloriana' Custom-made mushroom grey strapless dress with chiffon rosette swirl pattern, sweetheart neckline and turquoise tulle edging at the bust and ankle-length A-line skirt, and a pair of light brown gloves (2) Footnotes: As seen in the Ghillies Ball scene on the set for Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where Vanessa Kirby (as Princess Margaret) enjoys some Scottish country dancing with family and friends. The Ghillies Ball dates back to 1852, when Prince Albert bought Balmoral Castle for Queen Victoria. That year they threw a dance in September to thank their staff and servants. It became known as the 'Ghillies Ball' because the term 'ghillie' is Gaelic for gamekeeper, and Ghillies are also specifically designed shoes, commonly worn in Scottish country dance.
