In serge wool, pattern 40, size 10, label dated 1942. Buttons present but strongly oxidized. Printed paratrooper insignia, rank of sergeant, fabric parachutist wings bearing the printed title Parachute Regiment. All insignia are originals, as mounted. Traces of the registration number on the lining. This registration number could be that of Sergeant D.F. Bally, wounded in action. The item was found fifteen years ago in Bréville, 9th Battalion sector, in the corner of a barn. At the time, a British group working for the Battalion Association of the United Kingdom, was conducting an archaeological study on the battlefield site where the 9th Parachute Bn of the 6th Airborne had fought, and this was one of the items recovered. The 9th BN was responsible for the attack on the Merville Battery. Note many wear marks and holes throughout the item. Battledress presented as found.
